I have a fan of the Alphorn for over 40 years but this is the first time I have been since the new owners took over. My 5 pals and myself thoroughly enjoyed the experience, food & service. The only small complaint is from me - being charged $9 to have a small side order of Caesar salad instead of fries to accompany my delicious burger was painful especially since it was very small - so I won’t do that again. I still find the seats a tad uncomfortable as they don’t have a lot of padding. However, we will be back as back !

Was looking forward to having schnitzel, it was really really overcooked and the “fresh” veggies were also well overcooked!!!! The rosti was the only good part of the meal.. might try restaurant again and try the onion soup and fondue but will definitely not have or suggest the schnitzel to anyone………

I was very, very disappointed with the food. Bland, Bland. I thought we could order fondue with different sides. Not available. We had great food all weekend visiting Collingwood and on our last night it was a huge disappointment at the Alphorn. The seats are very uncomfortable, there is a smell when you walk in. Server did not know the menu that well, but was very pleasant. It had such a hype online , but it was a complete waste of money. We did not feel well after eating our meals. I had such high hopes. Will not recommend or ever go back again. I never write negative reviews, but this experience was so disappointing.

Hey Susan! Thanks for coming in! Happy to hear you had a good time! We are pretty new at the reservation thing.. after 35 years of not taking them we just started a couple of weeks ago. One of the big concerns for restaurants when taking reservations is that some people just aren't considerate of other guests that may want to dine.. They will make a reservation at several restaurants so they can decide where they want to go when the time comes and not cancel the reservations they don't want! It's true! Some people's children, let us tell you! We end up holding a table for a guest that never arrives, walk-in guests get upset with us when they see empty tables.. it is just not a great experience for anyone. Asking for a credit card allows us to protect our guests from those that don't like to play nice and, ultimately, helps us provide a better guest experience! Rest assured out credit card system is 100% secure and any personal information is held in the strictest of confidence and electronically shredded once it is no longer needed!- Overall: 7/10

My Husband and I really enjoyed this restaurant.
Very cozy and we enjoyed the way they Celebrated people that had Birthdays that night.
The staff was very friendly and the food was very good.

Hi, we love the Alphorn, and hosted two very good friends that night, but unfortunately all four of our schnitzels were very over cooked and dry. Because we had friends with us I didn't want to make a big deal about it during dinner. Our server was very good and friendly, the atmosphere was great, and our appetizers were very good. It would have been perfect if someone in the kitchen had noticed that the schnitzels were very dark brown before sending them out. My cell number is 416-450-9646 if you'd like to discuss further. As usual - the whole experience rates an 11 - We were a party of 6 celebrating 1 b'day person who had never been there before. We love to see all the skiers and the children and the noise and the ambiance is so fun as well. The staff are all wonderful and fun-loving. The restaurant has a live pulsing beat to it and we go there a lot and I can't wait to go again. The experience is lovely every time.

My friends and I have been coming to the Alphorn for over 40 years when we used to come up from Toronto to ski on weekends and we just loved it. When we retired, we moved up to Collingwood. We came in for the first time since pre-Covid yesterday. Did it ever bring back a lot of memories. However, we were very disappointed with the schnitzel, to the point that none of us would ever order it again. Ironically, the best schnitzel we’ve ever had is at Gustov’s and we used to go there all the time for your schnitzel until you took it off the menu. I’m taking the time to tell you this because I hope the Alphorn stays in business and does well. This is positive criticism. We love the atmosphere and we like to come to celebrate birthdays there and sing the birthday song. I fear if the mainstay, schnitzel, doesn’t improve you may run into problems. It tasted like it had been cooked and then refried to heat it up again. More greasy breading than meat. Sorry, but I thought you should know since you’re doing everything else right. All the best. My first time to what I understand is an iconic Collingwood restaurant. Go for the decor alone, but stay for generous helpings of German style cuisine. Staff were great, bringing out a free piece of Black Forest Cake when I told them it was my wife's birthday. My spatzle was a bit chewy, but my wife loved her schnitzel. Definitely worth going to.

we enjoyed ourselves, but we did find the schnitzel to be somewhat over cooked. Also our friends (who are snow birds could not join us )- ordered a bottle of wine to be delivered to the table , and prepaid - it didn't come . i know they are very disappointed and i know they will be in touch with you directly, hope they aren't too "difficult" about it - as mistakes happen. Love the Alphorn so don't take this too harshly. Love the additions to the new menu and the much better vegetables and bread and whipped butter. Thank you

Always enjoyed going to Alphorn but this time the food was very disappointing. The pork schnitzel was paper thin and overcooked, tasted like cardboard. Our waitress took back both my wife’s and mine and replaced the pork with a better piece on the same plate. Ordered the Collingwood whiskey cream sauce which was very watery and tasteless with 2 slices of mushroom, I guess they were running out of sauce and just watered it down. Certainly not worth the additional $4.50.

It was Monday night, March 6th, 2023 at 7:10 when we arrived. I made reservations for 2 people for 7 pm. The Alphorn was a favorite restaurant of mine years ago (over 20 yrs ago) and I was really looking forward to a plate of their schnitzel. I would be driving through Collingwood around 7 pm and called a few hours before to make reservations. I've always enjoyed their food and ambiance. I was with my elderly friend who had difficulty walking so the waitress moved us closer to the door so he didn't have to walk to the other side of the restaurant. Immediately we were served cold water and a warm tasty loaf of bread. A couple of minutes later she took our order and within 5 minutes we were served by a younger man (not our waitress) who came straight from the kitchen. The 2 plates of schnitzel he served us were a really dark golden brown in color and overcooked. It appeared they had been cooked twice and tasted like they had been cooked twice. It was difficult to cut with the knife, especially for my elderly friend and the meat was dried out. The sliced carrots were almost completely raw and the green beans were tasteless and cold. Needless to say, I was completely disappointed. Thankfully, the Swiss rosti potato was delicious because I was starving and I ate bread for the first time in 2 years. I wasn't going to say anything to the waitress, but then thought they should really know for the next guest. So when the waitress came with a doggie bag (literally, my pups ate schnitzel for dinner) I showed her the color of the schnitzel. That was the first time she saw it as she wasn't the one who served it to us. She was apologetic and offered us a complimentary dessert. We declined and that wasn't the reason I told her. The meal with a 20% tip was $89, my friend had a draft beer and I drank water. I think they may have made a mistake with the bill because we only ordered 2 regular-cut schnitzels @ $22.95 plus 2 gravies and one draft beer.

I've been a customer for about 30 years, I like that the vegetables are now fresh and that you've added spatzle. The dressing on the hearts of palm has changed, I preferred the previous version. The world and all restaurants are getting expensive so don't come as often but it is one of my favorite places when I come from Toronto.

The Beef Borg and Italian Schnitzel meals were fantastic. Carefully prepared and served piping hot. A rich, flavourful taste in both cases with well balanced seasoning. Desert Strudel and ice cream with Swiss chocolate sauce was the perfect finish. The staff were friendly and attentive. The Alphorn continues its well earned reputation as a perfect place for any celebration or casual meal.

I had heard many great things about this restaurant and was so looking forward to a wonderful meal.
However my husband and I both had schnitzel which was over cooked and dry (glad we had the lemons) as were the rosti potatoes. Vegetables were great as was the bread and butter. Atmosphere was wonderful
Are there new owners maybe or has kitchen staff changed?

The schnitzel was good. The veggies were mush. Just really over cooked. Mushroom sauce was felt thick and lumpy. Straight from a can? Sorry. This is the first negative comment I have ever done in my life. Usually I just don’t go back, But you are a local restaurant and I hope you do well.
Servers were amazing inviting and happy. Really wanted to make it the best experience!
Atmosphere is fun. Kids love it. The birthday celebrations are fun. The entire room joins in!
Parking is organized and in good shape.

Walking in at first it felt like the heating was not working. People kept their coats on!
I'm was embarrassed for my guest I invited for what I thought a nice dinner.
The Schnitzel were dry and hard as if someone forgot them in the deep fryer,
the vegetables were hard as well and they looked like typical frozen vegetables.
Over all it was a sad food experience! And way over priced for what it was!

This is so difficult to write because we have a fantastic time and a lot of fun as a group of 6. Our Servicer Susan was incredible, from taking our orders, delivering the food and drinks and making such a special effort.
The only problem was the pork schnitzel was terrible and most of us got it. We tried to pretend that it wasn't terrible because we didn't want to complain but it really was.

The reservation process was insulting. They would not take a reservation over the phone. To reserve on an American site and to have to leave a credit card on the site was insulting. The emphasis on the fact that if we were 10 minutes late or we did not cancel at least 24 hours before our time was insulting. The schnitzel was over cooked as were the Rosti potatoes. The service was great. We will not be back as there are at least two places in the area serving better schnitzel.

We were greeted and sat by a friendly hostess. All the staff were super friendly and efficient. Food was hot and fresh and very tasty. My only suggestion would be to suggest a sauce for the schnitzel at time of ordering. Next time we will try the fondue. It looked awesome.

They have destroyed what used to be with Mark and Bill and excellent Schnitzel what the new owners are serving is simply the crappiest schnitzel ever. How to destroy a restaurant that been there forever in one fell swoop. No more Alpenhorn for me.

Hello, We had a fun night with good friends ( who are also Clients) . The service was great , yet , almost too fast. We rushed to order drinks and food. We booked the table for 1.5 hours , yet we were finished the main course in 20 min. Bea was polite and professional as a server and the birthday candles were a nice surprise. The Manager at the bar was cordial. Schnitzel was good and big portion. Green beans were hard. The asphalt driveway near the handicap parking was broken and not level. My Client struggled in the dark , with his senior walker and almost fell. I recommend resurface. Sincerely , Ed

We had a wonderful lunch at the Alphorn . Sarah was an attentive server who read our table perfectly! She knew just when to ask for our orders and seemed to know we were there for a reunion of friends.
Her suggestions on menu choices were perfect for our group.

We had a wonderful dinner at The Alphorn. The Hunter’s Fondue with all the speciality meats - boar, bison, deer, elk - was so delicious and fun to cook and try the different sauces. The Black Forest cake was the perfect dessert to compliment a lovely dinner. The restaurant ambience is always a highlight of the visit. One of our favourites, we will always come for a visit whenever we are in Collingwood :).

We enjoyed our food and the server did a good job.
It took several minutes to be seated despite a few staff making eye contact as we waited. It wasn’t busy and we had a reservation.
We had a German student with us who recognized the music playing. With music as accessible as it is today, more contemporary music would be a suggestion.
We had a corner bench and a couple family members found the distance from the bench to the table less than ideal.
Despite all this, we did enjoy the food and will return.

I was floored by the level of service that was provided staff at the Alphorn. The pandemic has certainly taken its toll on employees and customer service has been sacrificed on so many levels but they went above and beyond to make our first visit exceed on expectations.
