The bar area, where dogs are welcome, has eight taps, including two rotational cask ales. Foresters Guild is dedicated to providing the best local and international real ale and regularly introduces new breweries and beers to the range.
The fridges and shelved selection are constantly being updated, so you’re bound to find that tipple you love. With coffee served until late, we cater to everyone’s needs.
The restaurant is open until 9pm 7 days a week, serving good Scottish home cooking, along with specials created by our creative team of Chefs. All meats and fish are sourced from Edinburgh and the local surrounding areas, and the menu is ever-evolving seasonally. We visited on a bank holiday and there was staffing issues .We waited an hour for our starter. To be fair staff member admitted mistake. We got a drink free of charge. When the main courses came one was just lukewarm which was a bit of a waste and disappointing after the hiccup with our starter.Hopefully if we return things will be better.

This review is for TableAgent rather than the Guild of Forresters as when booking a table it gives you the options of where you'd like to be seated. (restaurant, bar, outside) I tried booking the restaurant as we were having something to eat but it came up with fully booked (fair do's) so I then clicked in bar area and my choice was accepted. When we arrived at The Guild of Forresters we were then told that we were to be sat outside and there was no parasol. (nae bother for the Costa del sol but an unwise choice for Portobello) As you can imagine it was a typical Scottish summer (blowing a hooly,90 degree rain) so I questioned the guys decision to sit us there and stated the fact that I'd clearly booked a seat indoors as only a nutjob or duck would enjoy eating their tea in the inclement weather we were currently experiencing! "Aye it's a problem with the booking site we've been fully booked in the bar area for a couple of days, I dinnae ken why it still lets you book it when we've no seats." Was the reply. So we never actually got to sample the food or test the ambience. Sort it out TableAgent, wasted our time going to Portobello, ended up with a take away meal instead

It was very busy.
Received our meal 90mins after reservation time. One of my friends vegetarian meal was burnt when she received it but would not return it as I suggested. My blue cheese burger was to be honest a bit over done and had no sign of blue cheese. It will be a while before I return. There was never an apology regarding the late serving of our meal. I suspect perhaps there was not enough staff to deal with the number of customers that day

Booked for 7pm and was surprised at how busy the restaurant was for a Tuesday in November. Arrived slightly early was greeted at the door and shown to our table.
Atmosphere was great - room was warm and had a real buzz. Drinks order was quick but had to wait a wee while for food. No big deal - the two guys serving were very busy. All staff pleasant & helpful. Food was very tasty and good value for price paid.
Only small criticism was some items on menu were already not available to order and this was only 7pm!!
This limited choice and therefore had to rethink options chosen.
All in all good food in pleasant surroundings so will hopefully visit again next time in the area.

Foresters Guild is a regular spot where I meet and have lunch with friends.
I usually book in advance, and I’m glad I did as yesterday the restaurant was exceptionally busy. The service was good considering there were only two servers working the lunchtime rush. Both remained professional under pressure !
My friend and I both had fish and chips, the fish was delicious and the half portion just right. However the chips were a major disappointment, more like potato wedges in size and texture, and very dry. Hopefully when we go back the chips will be thinner and crispier with some flavour. The coffee was excellent!

I often meet friends for lunch in the Foresters Guild. It’s a favourite place for a relaxed lunchtime catch up. The menu is interesting and varied and the standards high. Loved friendliness of staff
The bar does not have non spiced dark rum ie ovd, lambs, black heart or captain Morgans original.
Only had three barrels brandy.
No courvoisier, martel or hennessy.
Wine glasses are cheap and scratched.
Music can be a bit loud at times.

We all ordered the Sunday roast which was lukewarm when it should have been hot. Had I been on my own I would have sent it back but because I was with other people did not want to make a fuss. Should have ordered the fish which I have had before. Disappointing as I was the one who suggested foresters

My friend and I felt the roast beef was very chewy and the vegetables underdone there's aldente and we felt the vegetables were practically raw. The ambience was great and the staff lovely. We would come back but the roast beef dinner would not be one of our choices.

As a frequent visitor to Foresters I have enjoyed many lunches there with friends.
The food is good, the menu varied and the ambience is relaxed. I’ve always found the staff to be attentive and friendly. I never feel rushed or under any kind of pressure to vacate our table. All of these things add up to an enjoyable dining experience.

I love the beer garden and the beach huts. I love the staff even more! They are great! We mentioned that we were in the mood for scones, and even though they are not on the menu were told they DO have them. They arrived somewhat hot on the outside but still a bit frozen on the inside - so not fresh.
On the flipside - on another day I had lovely Fish and chips there with NOT mushy peas - yay! And the Sticky toffee pudding was so good and SOOOO big!
Hence the '8' as the Scones were just not good quality... (although the clotted cream that came with them :-)... It would be great to have a few options that are more 'lunchy' as I'd visit more often. Perhaps a couple of other salad options e.g. with chicken and hard boiled egg... or some such...
I will surely be back! Such great vibe and team.

Roast dinner was lovely! Didn’t love the table we were sat at by the door which had a draft but it was busy and the lady did see me putting my jacket on and offered us another table. We then moved back through to the bar for drinks but although it was busy it seemed to be very cold? Looking round all the ladies seemed to be hugging themselves or sitting with their jackets on. Even my partner who doesn’t feel the cold had his on. Just didn’t feel very cosy is all. Will definitely be back though!
