Always have a great experience here, the service let us down today, slow to come to take drinks order ( wasn't sure if someone else had taken it ?? ) no menus offered ( did apologise for this oversight ). Really only saw a couple of young girls manning the bar. Paid a jolly young man he was super friendly and helpful.

Had a lovely meal again at The Bird in Hand on Tuesday evening. We both had the Steak & Guinness pie which was excellent and full of lots of big pieces of steak. I had the white & dark chocolate bread and butter pudding for desert. It was all delicious. The service was great and it was quite busy, especially for a Tues evening so it was a good atmosphere.

Really friendly, capable staff. Food came quickly even though it was busy. It was extremely noisy, wherever we were in the pub. It may be because I'm older, but enjoyment of the event and even food declines with overwhelming noise. I would certainly go back though, perhaps earlier in the week.

Before coming, I looked at one menu online which mentioned a few dishes which were not on the menu in the restaurant. This was a slight disappointment. However we all enjoyed our meal. Three of us chose the suet dish and none of us could finish it as there was so much suet. I hate wasting food. Could it be smaller or thinner ?
Most of us had ice cream. It would be good if that was listed on the menu.

We thoroughly enjoyed the evening just one comment though , the ramp as you come in is hard to notice especially when you are wearing sunglasses and coming in from the sunshine , it would be better if the ramp could be right across the step in some way. We were not the only ones who tripped over it could be a bad accident waiting to happen. However well done on all other quarters lovely food, lovely waiters and ambience fine. We will be back.

I had a chicken Kiev served with chips, the best I’ve tasted in a long while and the salad which although was very nice would’ve been even better with a better dressing.(this I felt was wishy-washy from the salad leaves not being dried)

As input on trip advisor… staff rushed, no engagement, huge wait times for food albeit only about 45% capacity. Unfortunately we had to wait over an hour for our meal as they only had one oven in use. The ‘special meal’ pork loin was lovely, the burger was over cooked. Can’t burgers ever be medium rare? The choice was limited unless you had pub classics which is served in every pub. The treacle tart was excellent.
Staff were welcoming and friendly.
Unfortunately noise levels are high because of low ceiling and uncarpeted flooring which causes a problem for people with hearing aids.

Not the warmest of welcomes as we walked in to the bar. Halloumi fries starter was great. Main courses, burger, fish and chips etc all std pub fayre. Staff had started setting up tables for next day while we were still eating our main courses. Felt a little like we had outstayed our welcome. Overall, I would rate as just above ok.

There were 4 of us having lunch and we all loved the food. One of us had the steak and Guinness pie and said it was the best pie he had had when dining out. My wife and I had the beef salad and both us thoroughly enjoyed them. The other person had a burger which they enjoyed. The desserts were also very good. The couple with us share a triple chocolate dessert and my wife had the baked Alaska, which looked fantastic and made me jealous, as I am diabetic. She said it was lovely. We will be back.

The service, food, quantity and quality was all excellent! Highly recommended and we will return.
Only slight negative, was we sat near the loo’s and there were occasions where we had strong wafts of the smell of weed which was unpleasant. Not sure if there is a smoking area outside close by. Next time we’ll reserve a table on the other side.

Not been to the pub for a while and it had been closed while new management of the Bird in hand took over.
Great experience all round after booking up a table for four. The decor a was very pleasant and cosey and felt a like real country pub.
The food was delicious, we went there on pie night and there was a good choice of pies that were available. My guests enjoyed one of the burgers on the menu.
I found there could have been a bit more veg with the pie but was overall very happy.
The staff were great, polite and accommodating. The pricing was competitive with other pub restaurants with some of the things being a little higher in price but the food was very nice.

Both the food and the friendly service great. We waited quite a while for our meal, but the waiter did let us know that they were busy and we could have a longer wait than usual. Overall great evening.

This is our local and it’s massively changed, feels like a restaurant more than a country pub now. A lot of the locals now don’t visit which is a massive shame. It was freezing inside, what’s happened to the open fire which gave warmth and a lovely atmosphere? Just a few B&Q heaters dotted around and plugged in which ruins the setting. Food was ok but £21 for a seafood pie which seemed like it used pre-made fish mix and a bit of grated potato seems a bit much. Couldn’t fault the staff though.

A lovely tea time meet up for former colleagues. The food was lovely, although mine was lukewarm and even after requesting it to be heated more, still wasn't as hot as I would have liked. There was a mix up over desserts but the server was fabulous, righted the wrong, apologised and keep us up to date. The billing was then confused but somehow it came out all eight in the end :)

Service was a bit slow. Husband chose the pan fried chicken breast, chicken dry and roast vegetables very sloppy. My scampi and chips fine and biscoff cheesecake delicious

Lovely to see this old pub open again. The food for lunch was excellent, with a good selection. Our only criticism is that there were only two waitresses and they were also working behind the bar, so when the bar got busy they were a bit scarce in the restaurant area. Overall, we will certainly go again.

Went out for a roast dinner
The roast potatoes were very sad, oily and cold, the crackling was more like a triangle of soggy rubber. The veg was okay but nothing special and lacked much flavour.
Pub is lovely, staff are nice but my roast could have been better.

My two daughters and I had a very enjoyable lunch at the Bird in Hand. The service was. Very good and the food was well cooked and presented. We all agreed it was a pleasant occasion and would definitely do it again..

Not as hoped. Restaurant was very cold, disappointing that doesn’t serve cocktails anymore. Food was ok, not all home cooked so disappointed on that front. Starters were bought in, croquettes, breaded Brie, halloumi fries…. It was still tasty enough. Staff were brilliant very good service & attentive. Decor was lovely. Not sure we’d be quick to return.

Waited over an hour just for a sandwich. Bread was cheap supermarket thin and inedible. Plastic in the salad, inexcusable. Was supposed to be celebrating a birthday. won’t be back.

Had heard that The Bird in hand had been taken over by a new landlord that use to run another pub we use to go to, obviously he’s taken his staff with him & the roast was top notch, absolutely tasty, all cooked perfectly, will be going there regularly.
