We dined at Bowley's with 2 of our friends who live in Trottiscliffe. The 2 of us live in Crawley. The food was excellent. The service was very good apart from one member of the serving staff. We do not know his name.....a tall guy. He was very stern and unsmiling and argued with one member of our party about the starter that he had ordered. The amuse bouche was a nice touch, however we were not told what was on the platter when it was served to us. It transpired that the balls were meat. We do not eat meat or poultry so our friends ate the 4 meatballs. When the platter was taken away our friend asked what the dip and the other item was. They turned out to be smoked butter and aioli. We had been asked if any of us had any allergies - but as we did not know that we would be getting an amuse bouche we had not thought to say at that point that 2 of us did not eat meat or poultry.

This was not our first visit and I have to say it was the best meal yet. Came with friends on Thursday lunchtime and had a wonderful dining experience. Every course fresh, beautifully presented and tasted divine. Nothing too much trouble. The Plough seems to have adjusted the portion sizes since our last visit and it represents great value for money. The new addition of the box of chocolates at the end of the meal was a lovely surprise. We are lucky to have such a nice fine dining restaurant so close by.

We had a first class lunch at Bowleys. We chose the set menu which was good value for the Michelin standard food much of which is locally sourced. Before the starter we had a selection of amuse-bouche - delicious! We will definitely be returning for the best food in this area.

I have already given feedback to the chef in person and by email. We were both underwhelmed with the food. My rabbit starter was uneventful, the main course of pithivier was one of the worst meals I've ever had and the mousse dessert was solid. The cod however was delicious. Perhaps it was just a bad day or perhaps the establishment is aspiring to a standard it can't meet. In any event, given the normal good reviews, it promised far more than it delivered.

A nice little restaurant in lovely area. I had Sunday Roast, which was above average with good quality meet. Would recommend. The starters however were a little over-priced and small. While some effort was clearly put into them they lacked a little in flavour. But overall a pleasant experience, and I will look forward to returning to try their normal menu sometime.

Very good experience overall, great to have fine dining in North Kent.
Not much to improve and our ambience score was really because it was Tuesday lunch and quite empty. When we arrived we were greeted with a "Can I help you" which sounded a little like "do you realise this is an expensive restaurant, not a pub". We weren't at our smartest and it's a minor point but it could have been a bit less challenging!

My husband and I had reviewed the menu prior and were both excited to try
the rabbit starter. Although we had an early evening table after being given the menus we were told "Oh by the way if your looking at the rabbit we've run out". The other starters were not really to our liking and nothing was offered to replace the unavailable starter. Appreciate that menus can be subject to change but very early to run out of what was the only meat starter. Having perused the wine list offered we chose one of our favourites but on ordering were told "Oh we don't do that one anymore" So why was it still on the wine list and not struck out or marked unavailable? Overall we enjoyed the food although for a Michelin* experience we have had better for the same or less cost. We would visit Bowleys again as love the rural country pub experience but would again review the menu and call them to pre-order any favourite choices.

Whilst the service and servers were lovely, we had a few observations about the food. Putting beef jus over a lamb and over a Guinea fowl dishes was odd.
The Welsh rarebit amuse bouche was soggy.
The lemon mousse in the desert had too much gelatine and was slightly rubbery.
And we were not offered any coffees at the end of the meal.

Newly entered into the Michelin guide this little fine dining establishment in Trosley is a treasured find! I am sure they will gain a Michelin star in the near future as their food is of the highest standard, beautifully presented and mouth watering. The staff are all fantastic and the ambiance is outstanding with the establishment still having a bar as well as a restaurant - we have visited several times now and will be back without doubt !

A lovely meal with superb food exquisitely presented. The portions were a reasonable size, which allowed us to enjoy two courses, plus complimentary bread and dip, amuse-bouches and petits fours. Sadly, we didn't have room for dessert (!) but those going to other tables looked good. The building is historic but the setting light and stylish. Service is attentive but not obtrusive. Three of the four of us had roast beef, one had roast chicken. The roast beef was cooked to our liking in each case, and was absolutely delicious. The roast potatoes were among the best we’ve ever eaten outside our own homes. Tasty gravy. Yorkshire puddings a little burnt but still mainly edible. Could have done with more veg!
Pear pud and chocolate pud nice enough.
Service was pretty good after the first hitch of our sitting at our table waiting to be given a menu (lunch had been booked in advance)….
Pretty expensive overall for what it was; there is a fair bit of competition in the larger area in which we choose to eat out.

Our second visit. The food was extremely good again. It was a Tuesday evening and very quiet and as a consequence the ambience was somewhat lacking. We will look forward to our next booking and this time it is on a Saturday evening.

We arrived on time and sat down, we were three and two other couples in main dining room, very slow service meal took about 2 hours 30 minutes. Food was OK but nothing special. My £36 steak Was extremely tough I could not cut parts with a steak knife. The Chef personally apologised and agreed meat not good. The item was deleted. No really my Happy Birthday experience

Simply outstanding. Went for dinner for my son's birthday. Food was incredible - delicious, balanced, creative. Service was first class: attentive without being suffocating, with great engagement and excellent humour. Venue was beautiful. Will definitely be returning.
